CAREER
Making Mental Health Matter
My career goal is to become a Licensed Social Worker.
In order to pursue this career, I plan to achieve my Bachelor's degree in Psychology, which I'm currently working on.
After this, I plan on attaining a Master's Degree in Social Work and working in the field.
My future goals are to work with clients one-on-one to help them gain access to the resources and education they are entitled to and to provide counseling and crisis intervention. My goal working with clients is to advocate for them to get them to a point of self-autonomy and allow them to feel empowered.
I also want to dismantle the systems in place on a micro and macro level that prevent girls from having equal access to primary and secondary education.
CORE VALUES OF SOCIAL WORK
The US refers to the NASW for its core values. One of these values is Social Justice. Social Workers play an important role in advocating for and practicing social justice. However, this core value must be emulated through their work. This can be done by educating yourself about the social, economic, and political issues that impact marginalized and vulnerable populations. Reading peer-reviewed research, articles, and being in the field communicating with people on what they need is essential.

An important part about working for social justice is to acknowledge your own privilege and reflect how it may have contributed to systemic injustices.
