CAREER
Making Mental Health Matter
My career goal is to become a Licensed Social Worker.
In order to pursue this career, I have achieved my Bachelor's degree in Psychology, and I am now pursuing my MSW degree. I will then take the ASWB Licensing Exam and become licensed in the province of British Columbia.
My future goals are to have my clinic where I work with clients one-on-one to help them access the resources and education they are entitled to and provide counselling and consulting. My goal working with clients is to advocate for them to get them to a point of self-autonomy and allow them to feel empowered. I want to educate larger organizations in sport to implement avenues for athletes to have easier access to resources and support. I want to work to dismantle harmful systems from the inside out
CORE VALUES OF SOCIAL WORK
The US refers to the NASW for its core values. One of these values is Social Justice. Social Workers play an important role in advocating for and practicing social justice. However, this core value must be emulated through their work. This can be done by educating yourself about the social, economic, and political issues that impact marginalized and vulnerable populations. Reading peer-reviewed research, articles, and being in the field communicating with people on what they need is essential.

An important part about working for social justice is to acknowledge your own privilege and reflect how it may have contributed to systemic injustices.
